Unify Shortcuts

In this release we have changed the way Unify Shortcuts work.

As you may know, you can use Unify Shortcuts to create links to files using path variables. This can be handy for example if you want to create a shortcut to a file on OneDrive. Because it is possible to have a different location for OneDrive on each PC, creating a simple Windows shortcut won't work across different PC's. Unify Shortcuts can be used to redirect correctly. It's a handy feature whenever you use a lot of shortcuts to files/folders and change locations of such files/folders. Using Unify Shortcuts you only need to change the path variable in Unify settings and then all Unify Shortcuts will automatically use the new value.

You can quickly create Unify Shortcuts by copying a file and then select the Create Unify Shortcut action from the Clipboard Quick Actions popup. In previous Unify versions, this would create a standard Windows shortcut that in turn referred to a Unify shortcut stored in the Unify data folder. From now on, it will create a Unify Shortcut directly, therefore without using Windows shortcuts. This ensures these shortcuts are portable across your PC's.

    • When a website like Steam is opening a Stream protocol URL, Unify will redirect it to Steam. This is, for example, used to install games after having purchased them.
  • Edit/settings
    • Added 'Enable AutoHDR' toggle in Unify's gaming settings.
  • Searching
    • Results now show size of found installed games.
  • Controller emulation
    • Pressing the Menu button now toggles the OSK instead of only showing it.

• Image Editor

  • Added button to convert image to Base64 text.

• Hide Folders

  • Added support for Windows Hello.
  • Added option to Log off from Windows when troubleshooting, as this can fix many problems.
  • Added messages to inform user if unhiding fails. And implemented a failsafe if a hidden folder already exists when unhiding because a new folder with the same name was created in the meantime.
  • A sound is played if unhiding fails.

• Global

  • Unify Shortcuts now have a custom file icon (you will need to re-associate file extension in Unify settings for these changes to have effect).
  • Jotter (Notes) now has a default hotkey (CTRL+ALT+N) which can be changed in settings. The Jotter shortcut will no longer be disabled while gaming.

• Gaming

  • General
    Opening Steam store pages for games in Unify's webbrowsers will now always open the correct page based on app ID (when available for a game in the All Games Database).
  • Searching
    • When a new game folder is detected, Unify now checks any installed Ubisoft and Epic games to see if there are matches.
    • Jumping to the location will now open the folder (or parent folder) where the game was actually found instead of the base folder.

• Clipboard

  • Quick Actions
    • Unify Shortcuts are now created as direct shortcuts (instead of Windows desktop shortcuts linking to Unify shortcuts).

• Scripting

  • Improved arguments parsing.

• Web browser

  • Added spacing around the webbrowser so the main window can be resized.

• Gaming

  • Stores
    • Some minor bug fix when importing Blizzard games.
  • Database
    • Key generation improved. Special characters will now be removed correctly so that only alphanumerics and numerics remain.
  • Editing
    • Fixed a bug toggling AutoHDR setting in case AutoHDR has not yet been set in the registry.

• Clipboard

  • Quick Actions
    • Opening file path / parent folder now works for HTML content (if it contains a path).
  • Paste
    • Opening file path / parent folder now works for HTML content (if it contains a path).

• Collector

  • When parsing using a custom engine, img elements' src attributes will now use absolute paths to preserve images.

• Hide folders

  • The Hide Folders hotkey setting will now be read correctly in the Hide Folders page. It did not work before due to a change in the setting location in a previous Unify update.
